    Today’s chief operating officers (COOs), who are increasingly seen as strategic business partners, must oversee operations, foster growth, and lead transformation in a complex digital landscape, driving organizational value and resilience. Skills like digital literacy, visionary thinking, and customer centricity have become essential for future COOs to drive organizational growth agendas in more impactful ways.

    The six-month Emerging Chief Operating Officer (COO) Program from Wharton Executive Education is designed to empower experienced operations leaders to think strategically, engage effectively with stakeholders, and oversee complex operational dynamics. Through the comprehensive curriculum, you will acquire the skills to successfully take on the responsibilities of a COO, including continuous improvement, data-driven decision making, risk management, and crisis response. At the end of the program, you will possess the strategic skills to navigate the evolving operations landscape, the foresight to identify challenges and opportunities, and the expertise to foster a powerful professional network that will help propel your career to the next level.

    Learning journey

    The six-month online learning journey includes 14 weeks of core leadership knowledge and two immersive sessions that will help you develop the skills required for future C-level leadership. The program also offers an optional two-day in-person networking event and recognition ceremony* on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, where you will have the opportunity to build connections with your peers.

    The Emerging COO Program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to navigate the responsibilities of a future COO. You will learn to lead with a strategic mindset while developing a powerful network of connections that will be a valuable resource on your journey to the C-suite.

    As a participant in the Emerging Chief Operating Officer (COO) Program, you will gain valuable insights into the role of modern COOs while also having exclusive access to the shared core curriculum of the Wharton Emerging C-Suite Development Program Series. This comprehensive series includes the Emerging Chief Operating Officer (COO) Program, Emerging Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Program, the Emerging Chief Product Officer (CPO) Program, and other emerging C-suite programs to be announced in the future. It offers a unique opportunity to dive deep into the specialized development track of a COO while also learning alongside and connecting with aspiring executives across other emerging C-suite programs during core leadership development components of the curriculum. This opportunity will help you further expand your professional network and develop a cross-functional leadership mindset.

    Application Details

    The program fee covers teaching fees, all academic material, and access to online coursework. The fee does not include the registration fee of US$250 for the optional two-day on-campus networking and recognition ceremony, accommodation expenses for the on-campus event, travel expenses (domestic and international, including visa fees), and any other expenses not specifically mentioned in the program fees.
